The Warmer Homes Scheme
Clare Local Development Company in association with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and with support from other organisations including the ESB, delivers the Warmer Homes Scheme to a large area of Co. Clare.
Under the supervision of John O’Connell, workers on the Rural Social Scheme provide an attic insulation, draught-proofing and pipe insulation service, as well as lagging jackets for boilers and water tanks. They also fit low energy light bulbs where required.
From a base in Spanish Point, the scheme operated by CLDC covers all areas north and west of Ennis-Clarecastle, as well as Ennis and its environs. Enquiries received from the rest of the county are referred to another community company based in Limerick City.
To qualify, the householder must be in receipt of fuel allowance through the Department of Social Protection. The work is carried out free of charge.
SEAI has also recently introduced a scheme in Clare whereby eligible householders who require wall insulation may have this work carried out by private contractors. Contact info@seai.ie for more information.
