Clare Farm Ideas Awards 2009

Background:  The Clare Local Development Company was established in January 2009, bringing together the RRD  (managing LEADER) and the Social Inclusion programmers (EIRI Corca Baiscinn, Ennis West and Obair Newmarket on  Fergus). This competition is a good example of the benefits of a new county-wide company bringing together skills, experience and resources to   help develop the rural economy.  


Purpose:  The intention is to give farm and fishing families in Clare an incentive to look at new business ideas.


Prizes:  Total €7,000 prize money. Sponsored First prize :   €3,000 -Clean Ireland Recycling.  Other sponsors include: Clare Marts, Kerry Agri-Business and Clare IFA, FDB  and the new BIM Sea Food Development Centre in Clonakilty will provide mentoring for the best fish/seaweed product.


Judges:  will include members from CLDC and Clean Ireland Recycling as well as Teagasc Rural Business Specialist Paul McCarthy, currently seen on RTE’s Higher Ground Programme, and Susan Steele, BIM.   


Timing:
The competition was launched on Oct 9th by Tom Turley, IFA National Rural Development Committee Chairman. 


Closing date: 5pm on 27th November.
